KAJAL, SAMANTHA AND ANUSHKA MORE POPULAR THAN PAWAN KALYAN?

Going by the annual year-end
search engine list of 2013, it
seems the leading ladies of
Tollywood have piped the
heroes. And yes, all things
filmi ruled the regional list
Karthik Pasupulate

It is clear that Hyderabadis are
absolute suckers for all things
Tollywood. A look at the list of
most searched strings on Google in
2013 suggest as much. Nine out of
10 most searched regional
personalities on Google are movie
stars. Politician Akbaruddin OwaisiY
standing at 6th position is the only
member with no Telugu cinema
connection on the list headed by
superstar Mahesh Babu. Not
surprisingly, we see the same
pattern in the list of most searched
places in the city of Nawabs with
four multiplexes and the Ramoji
Film City figuring prominently in
the top 10. While Osmania
University topped the list of most
searched educational institutes in
the city. But surprisingly Tamil star
Vijay starrer Tupaki topped the list
of most searched regional movies
ahead of Pawan Kalyan's Attarintiki
Daredi! The sure list has thrown up
quite a few surprises though.

GIRLS ON TOP OF MEGA HEROES

While Mahesh Babu heads the list
of most searched personalities in
Hyderabad, the likes of Kajal
Aggarwal, Samantha, Anushka, Allu
Ajun and Akbaruddin Owaisi rank
higher than Pawan Kalyan and
Chiranjeevi who are ranked at No 7
and No 10 respectively on the list!
Also, there is no Ram Charan in the
top 10, despite the actor making his
Bollywood debut with the remake
of Zanjeer, and courting controversy
over the "techie" episode. No
Prabhas, NTR Jr or Ravi Teja either!
TRISHA
Despite not having a single straight
Telugu film release in the whole
year, Trisha ranks No 8 on the list
of most-searched personalities.

WHO IS KAVYA MADHAVAN?

Malayalam actress Kavya Madhavan
has been the biggest surprise entry
on the list, ranked above
Chiranjeevi! The actress is little
known, yet, she broke into the top
10. Wonder why?

DUBBED FILMS PIP MAMA
BLOCKBUSTERS

Dubbed films like Tupaki,
Vishwaroopam and Singam 2 have
made it to the list of most searched
films. While Singam 2 and Tupaki
were duds, Vishwaroopam did
decent business. That the Telugu
version of Tupaki released two
weeks before the Tamil version
could explain the ranking to a
certain extent. The controversy
surrounding Vishwaroopam could
have played a role in its popularity
online.

SMALL IS BIG

Small budget films like Jabardasth
(3), Prema Katha Chitram (4) and
Potudagu (9) have been more
searched than hits like Seethamma
Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Baadshah
and Balupu. Looks like small films
are more popular online than big
star extravaganzas.
